I'd like to tell you some about the psychotherapy I do and about my background. Then, of course, feel free to contact me and we can begin to work on your concerns together or discuss in more detail if working together would be a useful fit for you and your present concerns.

I have diverse training and experience as a psychotherapist, which I find very helpful as I try to approach each person I work with as a unique individual, drawing on wide skills, creativity, and collaboration. I often view psychotherapy as a mix of alleviating symptoms (that is, providing some immediate relief from psychological pain) and a crucial developmental opportunity (to grow into a greater sense of self and greater connection to the larger world in terms of satisfying relationships and life activities).

Technically, I draw on several of the major schools of psychotherapy to work towards these general goals as well as specific goals we might discuss together. The different technical approaches I might draw on include psychoanalytic psychotherapy, DBT, CBT, Jungian psychology, and ACT.

I have an MA in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute with an emphasis in depth psychology, a post-graduate certificate from the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis in psychotherapy, and several years of experience with Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in treating eating disorders and general adult and adolescent practice, and with the Jung Center in Evanston.

Seeking psychotherapy is something that takes courage and can be of great benefit, so, although I likely do not know you, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your efforts you are making now. Please let me know if I might be able to be of assistance.

Take care,

Curt Kearney
